Terry Matassoni Art

Painter Terry Matassoni was born in Melbourne, in 1959. His family moved to Swan Hill, in country Victoria, where his fascination with drawing and painting began. He commenced studies in Bendigo in 1978 and returned to Melbourne two years later to complete a Diploma in Painting and Post-Graduate Diploma in Art at the Victorian College of the Arts. In 2005 Terry completed a Master of Arts at Deakin University.

He has had more than 30 solo exhibitions in Australia and internationally, including major survey shows in recent years. Matassoni was awarded the Sir Russell Drysdale Memorial Prize for Drawing in 1981 and he was commissioned by the Victorian Ministry of the Arts to paint an iconic Melbourne tram in 1992. His work is in national and international collections.

Matassoni draws inspiration from his home city, Melbourne, and surrounding areas, contemplating the spectacle of the everyday to reveal the outer and inner complexities of the human condition.
