First Trimester

Embark on a journey with London-based performance artist Krishna Istha as they search for the ‘perfect’ donor.

Continuing a world-wide search, the Australian premiere of First Trimester invites you witness intimate live interviews between Krishna and hundreds of participants, in a quest to find them and their partner a sperm donor or at least discover the qualities that make them a perfect match.

Krishna asks questions that range from funny to serious, from matter of fact to philosophical, in order to make the ultimate connection.

'Did you grow up with pets?'
'Where do you store your memories?'
'What do you value more, kindness or intelligence?'
And, most importantly for Krishna, 'Have you watched The Princess Diaries?'

Come Eat With Me

Come Eat With Me

Come Eat With Me is an interdisciplinary theatre performance exploring the layered relationship between caste and food, culminating in a shared meal.

Through Dalit stories, histories and everyday resistance, Come Eat With Me invites you on a sensory and emotional journey that unpacks themes of oppression and solidarity, grief and joy and the resilience of Oppressed Caste communities.

Intimate and participatory, Come Eat With Me is rooted in lived experience and collective memory. The performance transforms the act of inter and intra-communal eating – a practice often shaped by caste hierarchies – into a space for reflection, connection and community building.

Concluding with a shared meal, this powerful and immersive experience reveals how culinary traditions can carry both historical trauma and the quiet triumphs of survival and resistance.

From Archives to Art: Awakening Cultural Practices

Come along for an extraordinary artist talk with Maree Clarke (Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung), one of Australia's most influential voices in the reclamation and celebration of southeast Aboriginal cultural practices.

Maree works with both traditional and contemporary materials - including glass, 3D printing, and photography - to produce groundbreaking work. From traditional possum skin cloaks and contemporary designs featuring kangaroo teeth necklaces, to river reed necklaces, and string headbands adorned with echidna quills, Maree bridges ancestral knowledge with contemporary expression creating what she calls a 'living archive’.

Presented by Public Record Office Victoria, the archive of the State and Local Government in Victoria, don't miss this unique opportunity to hear Maree share insights into her creative process, her relationship with archives and museums, and how she continues to make Indigenous knowledge visible and accessible to new generations.

Tanja Milbourne: Equilibrium and Flow

  • Dark Horse Experiment - The Blender Studios (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Ten years ago, in response to a cancer diagnosis, Tanja Milbourne began a photography series seeking to express how life feels in its most uncertain, suspended moments.

Capturing dancers in moments of poised suspension, where movement and stillness seem momentarily inseparable, these images sought to explore how the human body, held between motion and stillness, can express states of being beyond language.

Equilibrium and Flow brings together three strands – photography, drawing and hybrid works – for the first time. Across them runs a shared exploration of movement, vulnerability and impermanence: a search for meaning in the delicate interplay between holding on and letting go.

Come along to the opening night on Friday 22 August, 6–9pm.
