Art at Arden
Join an artist talk featuring Abdul Abdullah and Ky-ya Nicholson Ward, celebrating their permanent artworks Come Together and Terrace Artwork at the entrance of the new Arden Station.
Come Together has been installed on the eastern façade of Arden Station, connecting the past of Melbourne’s west to its future. The mosaic artwork, extending across the Laurens Street façade, contains 2 large-scale aluminium hands, reaching across a mosaic background in a welcoming gesture, representing the coming together of people connected to the Arden area. It celebrates the communities of Arden and the station’s civic role in this emerging precinct.
Terrace Artwork by Ky-ya Nicholson Ward, etched into the terraces at Arden Station, tells the story of the artist’s ancestors, family and Country, and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people who lived and travelled by the Blue Lake that once existed nearby.

Cockie Duggan Day
Cockie Duggan Flies Again
While many people will be taking time off to mark the King’s Birthday this year, a small group in North Melbourne will be celebrating the long life of another mighty ruler – a sulphur crested cockatoo, known as Cockie Duggan, who reigned supreme at The Courthouse Hotel on Errol Street for many years. Cockie lived with the Duggan family, who were owners of the hotel from 1908 to 1960, and he spent his final years at Melbourne Zoo. By all accounts, he was a rebellious bird who imitated what he heard outside the men’s toilets at the hotel, and who liked to escape the confines of the yard by flying to the top of the flagpole on the town hall.
Cockie’s story came to light when local writer Brendan Gleeson was researching the history of the neighbourhood. Brendan wrote his ‘Ode to the King’ in memory of this notable bird, and the poem now hangs in a corner of The Courthouse, with a fine drawing based on early photographs. Brendan and a group known loosely as ‘The Friends of Cockie Duggan’ have initiated Cockie Duggan Day, an event which is enthusiastically supported by staff at The Courthouse. This year, there will be songs and poems to honour Cockie and other memorable birds. Melbourne musicians, The Taylor Project, will play a set of songs on themes of flight and freedom.
All Welcome at The Courthouse, Saturday, 14 June 2025, 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm.
Fly, Cockie, fly!

Tapsalteerie
Gaelic for topsy-turvy, Tapsalteerie lives up to its name. The band performs original music, best described as a curious mishmash of folk, Celtic, jazz, country & blues with a strong connection to place. Featuring catchy tunes, vibrant arrangements, driving rhythms, and a touch of nostalgia, Tapsalteerie is establishing itself as a force on Melbourne’s live scene.
Comprised of Meredith Beardmore (flute), Timothy Franklin (guitar/keyboards), Isaac Gunnoo (bass) and Maddison Carter (drums), Tapsalteerie represents a truly contemporary Australian folk sound. Tapsalteerie are excited to return to the Drunken Poet.

The Stetson Family
“They blend like one of the legendary bluegrass or country families…their best material yet.” Rick Moore, American Songwriter, Los Angeles
The Stetson Family walk the line between alt-country and bluegrass with their free-wheeling, spirited songs, awash with soaring harmonies. Described in American Songwriter Magazine as “champions of fresh bluegrass but with a bedraggled soul of rock and roots,” the band takes their audience on a journey down life’s crooked highway.
They are regulars on the Melbourne music scene, the national festival circuit and everything in between, and their festival harmony workshops are inspiring and often culminate with participants joining them onstage.
This show is proudly supported by the Victorian Government through the Community Support Fund and Creative Victoria delivered by Music Victoria.
